Namaste everyone,
Many years ago i received this recipe for Ladoos from one of Ma’s very close devotees. His name is Santana and he is an excellent chef and helps in our kitchen frequently. Thank you Santana for sharing your recipes.
Ladoos are an Indian sweet, a favorite of Lord Hanuman, and of course Baba and Ma!!!

Ingredients:
makes about 40 – 50 ladoos.
- 1 lb. Organic Unsalted Butter
- 4 cups Besan Flour (Chickpea Flour) – available in Indian markets
- 1 lb. bag of Powdered Sugar
- 1 and 1/3 cups Organic Shredded Unsweetened Coconut
- 1 and 1/3 cups Organic Walnuts – finely chopped
Directions:
Step 1:
Melt butter in a large heavy pan, a large cast iron skillet would be good.
Keep your heat low so the butter does not burn.
Add the besan flour, with a large spoon mix into the butter. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for the lumps to break up.
Continue to stir the besan flour butter mixture until it gets toasty light brown.
Watch carefully it does not burn, if your heat is too high, lower it. This step is crucial, because browning or toasting the flour is what gives the ladoo its great taste. This is the secret for ladoos !
When you have a toasty brown color you are there. Turn off the heat.
Step 2:
In a food processor finely chop the walnuts, add to the besan butter mixture, mix well.
Add the coconut, mix well.
Last add the powdered sugar, mix well. Now, it will seem that all these ingredients look messy and far from the ladoo. Do not worry. Move the mixture into a mixing bowl and mix well.
Let the ladoo mixture cool before rolling so you do not get burned.
Step 3:
If you have ever worked in the kitchen at Kashi then you know what i would tell you…that’s right, wash those hands 🙂
Mix it up even more with your hands and make sure all the sugar lumps get crushed.
Now you are ready to roll the ladoos. With your hands roll the ladoos into a small golf ball size. They will become shiny and smooth, place on parchment paper lined pans.
Put into refrigerator so they keep their shape, and take out an hour before serving.
Serve them at room temp.
They freeze well also.
Enjoy !!!
